A NEW ERA OF DIAKONIA IN CANADA!
Seasons Greetings, Deacons of Canada!
Following the joyous season of Advent and the arrival of Christmas, we look to the close of 2025 and towards the fresh new year of 2026! Anglican Deacons Canada invites you to renew your membership with ADC or become a first time member by visiting Join Us / Renew | Anglican Deacons Canada.
This was a banner year for ADC in that:
· we celebrated 25 years of supporting and encouraging the growth of diaconal ministry across Canada;
· we marked our first year as a registered charitable organization. To donate, please visit us at Donate | Anglican Deacons Canada
· we had a booth that gave us very visible representation at General Synod and were able to personally engage with many delegates;
· we saw 2 motions pass at General Synod; one adopting the Theological Statement on the Diaconate and the second commending the Practices for a Renewed Diaconate for further discussion at all levels of the National Anglican Church over the next 3 years. The collecting of data and the authoring of both documents were initiatives of ADC.
· we have established a task force in partnership with the Faith, Worship, and Ministry committee to collect further information and input related to the Practices for a Renewed Diaconate over the next 3 years. A report will be presented at the next General Synod. For the first time, a deacon has been elected to FWM and there is significant diaconal representation on the task force.
· we celebrated the appointment of an ADC board member as the official national Anglican representative for the Central Council of the Centre for Christian Studies.
We invite you to join us for the exciting next steps as we work towards shaping the diaconate across Canada and towards educating the Church about the crucial role of deacons in ministry. ADC is a volunteer board and we will be advertising additional opportunities for you to make a difference in the coming months. We are looking for a Treasurer, people with an interest in Communications (including our Salt & Light newsletter), Membership and Recruitment, and helping with our website. As well, we will be sharing details about our upcoming conference in June 2027 in Ottawa. So stayed tuned!
We look forward to welcoming old friends back to ADC and to extending a warm greeting to new members. May God richly bless you in your ministry!
The Reverend Dr. Joanne Neal,
President of Anglican Deacons Canada
